Sky on Fire Over the Pah Rah Range

I took a drive over the weekend, north of Sparks, between the metro area and Pyramid Lake. Pyramid Highway passes through the Palomino Valley, a really nice area filled with ranches and homes with some nice acreage. O, to live in one of those 50 or 100 acre spreads. As I drove east through the valley I got closer to the Pay Rah Range and its high point, Virginia Peak. Word is a service road leads up to the peak, I found it and followed it up a ways. My goal wasn’t to drive up to the top, though, I wanted to get in some hike time. Got the car parked in a wonky spot near where the service road begins and followed the road up. After a mile or so, though, it was clear I was doing this all too late in the day. So, I booked it back to the car. Yeah, not a lot of planning goes into leisurely afternoon drives. It was great timing, though, the setting sun set the sky on fire as I was making my way back. What a view! Looked like rain was falling in some areas,

It was a great afternoon to get in some explore time. I’ll return soon, boogie up to the peak, and chill out among the antennas.

Hi, I'm Jim, public lands advocate, tech nerd, and massive coffee drinker. This is my little corner of the internet where I share thoughts, ideas and items I find personally interesting. I'm nutty for public lands & the open road, so if you like seeing pictures of the outdoors and road trip landscapes this will be a good spot. My day job is as the Community & Development Manager for Friends of Nevada Wilderness. However, in this space I represent only myself.

  1. So in lieu of getting the ActivityPub WP plugin to work in my hosting space I’m going back to the original plan, cross-posting to my main Mastodon account. Hey, works for me. To be seen if replies here make it back to the blog. Yay on finally assuming an IndieWeb stance. My homebase is alive again!
